Now, let’s dive into the most critical part of this recipe, the How-To.

Step 1: Make the Dough

In a stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment or using an electric hand mixer, beat together 1 cup of unsalted butter and 1 cup of granulated sugar until creamy. Add 2 eggs, one at a time, and beat well. In a separate bowl, whisk together 3 cups of all-purpose flour, 2 teaspoons of baking powder, and ½ teaspoon of salt. Gradually stir the dry ingredients into the wet mixture in parts, alternating with ¼ cup of whole milk.

Step 2: Prepare the Filling

For the filling, in another mixing bowl, blend together 8 oz of cream cheese, softened, with ½ cup of sugar until smooth. Add in 1 can (14 ounces) of whole berry cranberry sauce, and mix well.

Step 3: Assemble the Cake

Roll out half of the dough on a large floured surface about ¼-inch-thick. Place it into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish so that it overhangs on each side of the dish slightly. Spread the cranberry cream cheese filling evenly over the dough. Roll out the other half of the dough like before and place it atop cranberry filling.

Step 4: Rise and Bake

Cover with plastic wrap and let rise for about 60 minutes so that it doubles in size. Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C). Then remove plastic wrap from dough and bake for 35-40 minutes until light golden brown.

Once done, remove from oven and let cool on a wire rack before slicing into bars.

There you have it! Your deliciously sweet Cranberry-Cheese Coffee Cakes are ready to devour! Pair them with hot coffee or tea and enjoy the goodness!

Note: This recipe yields a large cake, perfect for entertaining or large gatherings. If you prefer, you can make two smaller coffee cakes by dividing the dough and filling in half. You can also sprinkle powdered sugar on top of your finished product or add some fresh cranberries for an extra pop of color and flavor!

If you prefer a different type of fruit, you can substitute the cranberry sauce with fresh or frozen berries, such as blueberries or raspberries. You could also try using dried cranberries or other dried fruits for a different texture and flavor.

For a twist on the cream cheese filling, try adding a teaspoon of vanilla extract or some lemon zest to give it a bright, citrusy flavor. If you’re feeling adventurous, you could even swap out the cream cheese for a different type of cheese, like goat cheese or ricotta.

Alternatively, you could experiment with the toppings and add-ins of this coffee cake. For some extra crunch and texture, try sprinkling some chopped nuts on the top of the cake before baking. Or, drizzle some caramel sauce over the cake right before serving for an extra touch of sweetness.

Another variation to consider is turning this recipe into individual portions by baking these cranberry-cheese coffee cakes in muffin tins instead of a large cake pan. Serve them at your next brunch gathering or as a grab-and-go breakfast.

And finally, this recipe is equally delicious as it is versatile. Use leftover cranberry sauce from Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner and turn it into something new and creative! Pair with an aromatic cup of cranberry coffee or choose any other brew that suits your taste buds.

Make-Ahead, Storing and Reheating

Sweet and savory flavors combined to perfection in a single bite.

Listen up coffee cake lovers, because I have a game plan for you. These cranberry-cheese coffee cakes can be stored, reheated or even made ahead to simplify your holiday morning routine.

If you want to make these cakes ahead of time: after they cool sprinkle the top with a little powdered sugar, then wrap them tightly in cling wrap and put them in an airtight container. These cakes store well for up to 2 days at room temperature, and up to one week in the fridge. When ready to serve, you can reheat them in the oven or microwave.

When reheating in the oven, preheat it to 350°F (180°C), place the cake slices or whole cake on a baking sheet and bake for about 10 minutes till just beginning to brown on top. Easy!

But if you need to reheat quickly, simply pop the slice of cranberry cream cheese cake into the microwave, they take less than one minute if they are at room temperature, but slightly longer if they are cold straight from the fridge. No worries though – I promise they will still taste like they were freshly baked!

Another smart tip is that if you have leftover cranberry sauce from your holiday meal prep, use it as a perfect topping on this cake. And if you’re feeling fancy and want to try something new, drizzle cranberry-orange sauce over the top instead of syrup — it’s out of this world! You can also sprinkle fresh or dried cranberries on top to enhance that fruity flavor profile even more.

Make sure to follow these tips for proper storing and reheating and enjoy your festive cranberry-cheese coffee cake long after the holiday cheers have faded away.

Tips for Perfect Results

Okay, let’s get real. Making a perfect Cranberry-Cheese Coffee Cake is not easy. If you’ve attempted this recipe before, you know that it takes time, patience and skills to get it right. But don’t worry my coffee-loving friends, because I’m here to give you some insider tips that will guarantee perfect results every single time.

First things first, always read the recipe instructions carefully before starting. This may sound obvious, but trust me when I say that many people skip steps, misread measurements or misinterpret key information.

Next, make sure to use high-quality ingredients. Using cheap or old ingredients can ruin the taste and texture of the cake. Always use fresh flour, yeast, eggs and milk for the best possible results.

Speaking of ingredients, use room temperature butter and cream cheese. This will make them easier to mix and blend with other ingredients without lumps forming in your cake batter.

When mixing the cake batter, keep in mind to beat mixture thoroughly until it is smooth and creamy. You don’t want your Cranberry-Cheese Coffee Cake to come out dry and lumpy.

One key tip that many people overlook is to add baking powder and baking soda at the right time! Make sure you add both leavening agents at different stages of mixing the cake batter for a perfectly risen cake.

When it comes to adding cranberry sauce to the filling, try switching out regular cranberry sauce for a cranberry-orange blend or adding fresh or dried cranberries for extra flavor.

Lastly, although tempting as it may be, don’t cut into your Cranberry-Cheese Coffee Cake immediately after taking it out of the oven. Let it cool for a while so that all flavors meld together; warm cheese crumbly goodness plus warm cranberry bliss equals well-deserved indulgence!

So there you have it – my top tips for making a perfect Cranberry-Cheese Coffee Cake recipe. With these tips and tricks, you’re sure to impress your friends and loved ones with your baking prowess. Happy baking!

Ingredients

Cake

  • 3 1/2-4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 (1/4 ounce) envelope fleischmann's fast rising yeast (Brand name is RapidRise)
  • 1/3 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 (16 ounce) can whole berry cranberry sauce
  • 2 teaspoons grated lemon peel or 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 egg white
  • 1/2 cup sliced almonds
  • 1/4 cup sugar

Filling

  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 egg yolk

Instructions

  • Mix 2 cups of the flour, 1/3 cup sugar, the salt, and yeast in a large bowl. Heat shortening, water and milk to 125 to 130 degrees (shortening may not be melted); stir into flour mixture. Mix in egg; beat until smooth, about 2 minutes. Mix in enough of the remaining flour to make dough easy to handle. Turn dough onto lightly floured surface; knead until smooth, 3-5 minutes. Cover and let rest 10 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, make cream cheese filling: Mix cream cheese, 1/4 cup sugar, 3 T. flour and egg yolk until smooth and fluffy. Set aside.
  • Grease two 9-inch round pans. Mix cranberry sauce with lemon peel or almond extract (your choice); reserve.
  • Divide dough into halves; roll each half into 15-inch circle. Fold into fourths; place in pan with point in center. Unfold; press dough against side, allowing edge to hang over edge of pan. Spread half of the cream cheese filling over dough in each pan; top each with half of the cranberry sauce. Make cuts at 1-inch intervals to about 1/2-inch above filling around outside edge of dough. Twist strips and fold over sauce.
  • Beat egg white with hand beater until foamy; brush over dough. Sprinkle each cake with 1/4 cup almonds and 2 T. sugar. (At this point, coffee cakes can be covered and refrigerated up to 24 hours; rising time may be slightly longer.) Cover and let rise 45 minutes.
  • Heat oven to 375 degrees. Bake until golden brown, 30-35 minutes; cool slightly.
