  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together 1½ cups of all-purpose flour, 2 tsp of baking powder, and ½ tsp of salt.

Substitutions and Variations

Perfect for breakfast, brunch, or dessert
Perfect for breakfast, brunch, or dessert

One of the best things about this Blueberries and Cream Cheese Coffee Cake Recipe is the versatility. Even though it is already an excellent recipe, there are many ways to make it even better or cater to your preferences.

Firstly, if you don’t have fresh blueberries, frozen ones will do the trick. Whether baking with fresh or frozen blueberries, remember to coat them in flour before adding them to your batter. This prevents the blueberries from sinking to the bottom of the cake and ensures that they get evenly distributed throughout.

For a low-carb version, you can substitute the flour with coconut flour, almond flour, or a combination of both. This substitution will give you a denser and more delicate crumb. You can also swap granulated sugar with monk fruit sweetener or Stevia for a sugar-free option.

If you’re looking for a mixed berry flavor, feel free to add raspberries or blackberries alongside fresh blueberries. For a tangy taste, try incorporating sour cream into your cream cheese filling. Or even mix things up by adding a teaspoon of lemon zest into the filling and cake batter for a lemon blueberry crumble cake.

Lastly, if you prefer streusel topping over icing, skip the icing blueberry topping and add a simple streusel topping instead. To make streusel topping mix 1 cup of flour, 3/4 cup white sugar, and 1/2 cup cold cubed butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Sprinkle this mixture over assembled cake before baking.

A coffee cake that’s not too sweet nor too sour

I know you’re excited to savor a piece of this blueberry cream cheese coffee cake, but before you indulge, let me suggest some fantastic pairing options.

You could sit back, relax, and savor your slice with a warm cup of your favorite coffee. Drawing inspirations from the recipe’s origins in Mountain View Country, the coffee cake would pair well with a rich and bold cup of freshly brewed coffee. Add an extra splash of 2% low-fat milk for a creamy and soothing finish.

If you’re feeling adventurous and looking to elevate your taste buds’ experience, consider pairing the blueberry cream cheese coffee cake with fresh berries. A mixed berry salad made of strawberries, raspberries, blackberries would complement perfectly the warmth and richness of the coffee cake.

Alternatively, to showcase the fullness of the blueberry flavor, consider topping your slice with blueberry compote or frozen blueberries glazed in icing sugar. Fresh blueberries are also an option if you have them on hand.

If you’re looking for a more decadent dessert experience, serve your blueberry cream cheese coffee cake with a dollop of whipped cream or lemon/blueberry glaze. The soft tanginess of lemon zest is perfectly balanced by the sweetness of blueberries and would add an additional layer to this already mouth-watering dessert.

No matter how you serve it, this blueberry cream cheese coffee cake is undoubtedly sure to impress!

Make-Ahead, Storing and Reheating

Creamy, rich, and bursting with blueberries
Creamy, rich, and bursting with blueberries

One of the best things about this Blueberries and Cream Cheese Coffee Cake Recipe is that it can be made a day ahead. This means that you can enjoy a stress-free brunch without worrying about spending too much time in the kitchen.

To make the cake ahead of time, simply bake it according to the recipe instructions, then let it cool completely. Once it’s cool, cover it tightly with plastic wrap or foil and store it in the refrigerator overnight.

If you’re planning on storing the cake for longer than a day, place it in an airtight container or resealable bag and store it in the freezer for up to three months. The cake freezes well and can be reheated easily for future servings.

To reheat frozen or refrigerator-stored cakes, simply remove them from their storage container or wrapping and let them come to room temperature on the kitchen counter for at least 30 minutes. Preheat your oven to 350°F (177°C), once heated, pop your cake into the oven and warm for 10-15 minutes.

Alternatively, if you want a quick and easy way to warm individual servings, simply microwave each slice at 50% power in 10-second increments until warmed through.

Just like any other coffee cake recipe, this Blueberries and Cream Cheese Coffee Cake Recipe is best served fresh out of the oven with a dollop of whipped cream or ice cream. It also pairs perfectly with a hot cup of coffee or tea as its sweetness is balanced by an airy texture that is light enough to leave space for curiosity on other gourmet paired with coffee! Tips for Perfect Results

A match made in heaven: blueberries and cream cheese
A match made in heaven: blueberries and cream cheese

To make the most out of your Blueberries and Cream Cheese Coffee Cake recipe, here are some tips to obtain perfect results every time. These tips will help you prepare a coffee cake that is moist, fluffy, and tastes heavenly.

Firstly, make sure that all ingredients are at room temperature before use. This is essential to ensure that the ingredients mix together evenly, resulting in a consistent texture throughout the cake.

Secondly, use fresh ingredients. Fresh blueberries provide the best flavor and texture for the cake, so try to steer away from frozen ones if possible. Likewise, fresh lemon zest adds a bright and tangy taste to the recipe.

When it comes to mixing the batter, ensure all ingredients are well-incorporated. Use an electric mixer to beat the cream cheese mixture and ensure it is smooth and creamy. However, it’s important not to over-mix as this could make the cake dense.

For best results, bake your cake in a high-quality baking dish. I recommend using a glass dish as this will allow you to see how close it is to being fully baked.

When topping your cake with streusel, use chilled butter and cut it into small cubes before incorporating it into the mixture. This will result in evenly distributed crumbles on top of your coffee cake.

Finally, make sure you let your coffee cake rest for at least 10 minutes before slicing it into pieces. This will allow its flavors to settle in properly, making each bite more enjoyable.

By following these tips, I’m confident that you’ll create a tasty Blueberries and Cream Cheese Coffee Cake that everyone will love!
