Now that we have all the ingredients ready, it is time to start making our Coffee Brownies with Cream Cheese Frosting recipe. Follow the steps below to achieve the perfect result.

Step 1: Mix the Dry Ingredients

The first thing that we need to do is mix all the dry ingredients in a medium-sized bowl. In this case, it would be 2 cups of flour, 1 teaspoon of baking powder, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, and 3/4 cup of cocoa powder.

After we get everything mixed up, then put them aside for later use.

Step 2: Melt Butter and Sugar

Next, we will melt together 2 sticks or one cup of butter and 2 cups of granulated sugar in a saucepan over low heat. Keep stirring until they are well mixed and the sugar has mostly dissolved.

Once melted and smooth, turn off the heat and let it cool down a bit before continuing to the next step.

Step 3: Add Eggs and Coffee Powder

Put 5 eggs into a mixing bowl and beat them until they are light and fluffy. Then add in 2 teaspoons of instant coffee powder, 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract, and mix everything together.

After that, add in the melted mixture of butter and sugar, stir until everything is well combined.

Step 4: Add Dry Ingredients

Once you have mixed everything well from the previous step (“Step 3”), then gradually pour in the dry ingredients mixture from (“Step 1”). Make sure each time you add some dry ingredients; stir them gently until they are blended seamlessly.

Step 5: Bake Your Brownies

Preheat your oven to 350°F. Grease or line your baking pan with parchment paper to avoid sticking. Pour your brownie batter into your baking pan evenly using a spatula.

Bake your brownies in the oven for approximately 25 to 30 minutes or until the toothpick comes out clean when inserted in the center of the pan.

Step 6: Make Cream Cheese Frosting

While waiting for the brownies to cool down, it’s time to make our Cream Cheese Frosting. Beat together 8 ounces (1 cup) of cream cheese, 1/2 cup (1 stick) of softened butter, 2 teaspoons of instant coffee powder, and 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract.

Gradually add in 3 cups of powdered sugar and mix everything until creamy and smooth.

Then add some chopped pecans on top of the frosting.

Step 7: Apply Cream Cheese Frosting

Once your brownies have cooled down completely, apply your Cream Cheese Frosting evenly on top of the brownies surface with a spatula or a cake knife.

Substitutions and Variations

A mouthwatering treat for all the coffee lovers out there.
A mouthwatering treat for all the coffee lovers out there.

Listen, I know not everyone has every single ingredient on hand. Sometimes we gotta get creative and use what’s in the pantry. Here are some substitutions and variations that can make these coffee brownies even more exciting.

– If you want to add a nutty flavor to your brownies, try swapping pecans for walnuts or almonds.

– Want a spicy twist? Add a dash of cinnamon or chili powder to the batter.

– Instead of regular chocolate chips, use dark chocolate or semi-sweet chocolate chunks for some added richness.

– Don’t have instant coffee powder? No problem. Brew some strong coffee and only use half the amount of liquid in the recipe. This will give you that wonderful mocha flavor.

– For a sweeter frosting, substitute white granulated sugar with powdered sugar. It will give your cream cheese frosting a silky smooth texture.

– Want to switch up the brownie base? Try using a box mix instead of making it from scratch. Betty Crocker’s fudge brownie mix is a great option.

– If you want to add even more coffee flavor, make the frosting with espresso powder instead of instant coffee. It will take it up a notch and really satisfy any coffee cravings you might be having.

Remember, substitutions and variations can lead to some amazing results, as long as you keep the measurements and ratios in mind. Be bold and have fun with it!

Serving and Pairing

These fudgy brownies are the perfect afternoon pick-me-up.
These fudgy brownies are the perfect afternoon pick-me-up.

I recommend pairing these rich and decadent coffee brownies with a warm cup of mocha or espresso. The bitterness of the coffee will complement the sweetness of the brownies, creating a delectable balance of flavors in your mouth.

For an extra indulgence, try topping the brownies with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream. The coolness will contrast perfectly with the warmth of the freshly baked brownies.

If you’re feeling adventurous, you could even try creating a mocha cheesecake or fudgy espresso cake using the same ingredients as in this recipe. The intense coffee flavor will undoubtedly satisfy your cravings for something sweet and caffeine-induced.

These chocolatey treats also go well with fruity desserts, such as a fresh berry salad, to cut through the richness of the brownies. Alternatively, pair them with a robust red wine for an after-dinner treat that will tantalize your taste buds.

Lastly, remember that these coffee brownies are best served warm and fresh out of the oven, so invite over some friends and indulge in these heavenly treats together.

Make-Ahead, Storing and Reheating

You can make these coffee brownies with cream cheese frosting ahead of time, which is perfect for busy schedules. Once the brownies have cooled, you can store them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days. If you’re planning to eat them after that, it’s best to store the brownies in the refrigerator or freezer.

If you want to store the brownies in the refrigerator, place them in an airtight container and keep them for up to five days. Make sure you cover the container tightly as the odours from other food items can get into the brownies and alter their tastes.

For longer storage, wrap each individual brownie piece in aluminium foil, and then put them together in a freezer-safe ziplock bag before placing them in the freezer. The brownie pieces should hold up well for up to three months. The day before you plan to serve them, remove the frozen brownie pieces from the freezer and place them on the kitchen counter so they can thaw.

When reheating individual pieces from refrigerated or frozen batches, preheat your oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit (165 degrees Celsius) and place your quantities directly on an ungreased baking sheet. Reheat individual pieces by placing them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and then heating them in a preheated oven at 325°F for approximately 10-12 minutes until warm and soft.

Be sure that never use a microwave when reheating cream cheese frosting on top of your coffee brownies. Microwaves tend to cause frosting melting which creates messy looking desserts.

By taking proper storing-reheating procedures, future you will enjoy scrumptiously fresh homemade coffee brownies with cream cheese frosting without any regrets or difficulties!

Tips for Perfect Results

These coffee-infused brownies will leave you feeling warm and cozy inside.

If you’re anything like me, you want your coffee brownies with cream cheese frosting to be perfect. And while the recipe itself is pretty straightforward, there are a few tips and tricks I’ve picked up that can help ensure success every time.

First and foremost, make sure your ingredients are at room temperature before beginning. This includes your eggs, butter, and cream cheese. Room temperature ingredients will mix together more easily and create a smoother texture in your brownies and frosting.

Another key tip is to not overmix your batter. Overmixing can cause tough or rubbery brownies. Mix the ingredients until everything is just combined and then stop. Trust me, it’s hard to resist the urge to keep mixing, but it’s worth it in the end.

When adding the instant coffee powder to your brownie mix, whisk it into the dry ingredients first to prevent any clumps from forming. This ensures an even distribution of coffee flavor throughout the brownies.

When making the cream cheese frosting, take care not to overbeat it. Overbeating the cream cheese can turn it into a runny mess. Beat it just enough to blend all of the ingredients together and give it a smooth consistency.

If you’re using nuts in your brownies, consider toasting them first to bring out their flavor. Simply spread them out on a baking sheet and toast in a 350-degree oven for 5-10 minutes until fragrant.

Lastly, if you’re short on time or don’t feel comfortable making everything from scratch, don’t be afraid to use boxed brownie mix or pre-made frosting as substitutes. Betty Crocker has some great options for fudgy espresso or red velvet brownies that can save you time without compromising on taste.

Follow these tips and you’ll be well on your way to coffee brownie perfection!

Coffee Brownies with Cream Cheese Frosting Recipe

This Kaffeebrownie recipe comes from a German recipe book called Coffee Shop. I make it often, though I substitute the pecans for walnuts and prepare the cream cheese icing with powdered icing sugar (amount according to taste) as opposed to white sugar.
