Step 1: Combine the Dry Ingredients

In a bowl, combine 2 cups of flour, 1 teaspoon of baking soda, and 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly distributed.

Step 2: Mix the Wet Ingredients

In a mixing bowl, cream 1/2 cup of butter, 1/2 cup of margarine, 1 cup of sugar, and 1/2 cup of brown sugar together until light and fluffy. Add in 1 egg and mix well. In a separate container, dissolve 2 teaspoons of instant coffee in 3/4 cup of hot water, add in 3 tablespoons of spiced rum and combine well.

Step 3: Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients

Add the dry mixture to the wet mixture gradually, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the coffee-rum mixture until everything is evenly combined.

Step 4: Chill the Dough

Cover the dough with plastic wrap or transfer to an air-tight container and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

Step 5: Bake the Cookies

Preheat your oven to 350°F. Using an ice cream scoop or tablespoon, form balls from the chilled dough and then roll them into nice circles. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or silicone mat, making sure they are at least two inches apart. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until they start to turn golden-brown.

Step 6: Cool and Store

Once you’ve removed them from the oven, let them cool for about five minutes before transferring them onto a wire rack to cool completely. Store in an air-tight container at room temperature for up to a week.

Coffee-Rum Cookies are delicious just the way they are, but if you’re feeling creative or in the mood for a twist on this classic recipe, there are plenty of substitutions and variations that you can try. Here are a few ideas:

– Substitute shortening with butter: If you prefer a richer flavor, try substituting the shortening with butter. Keep in mind that this will change the texture of the cookies slightly. The cookies may spread more when baking, so be sure to give them enough space on the cookie sheet.

– Use coffee-flavored rum: For an extra coffee kick, try using coffee-flavored rum instead of regular rum. This will give your cookies a stronger coffee flavor and make them even more delicious.

– Add chocolate chips: Nothing makes cookies better than adding chocolate chips. For a mocha-inspired treat, try using dark chocolate chips in your Coffee-Rum Cookies recipe.

– Swap rum for other flavors: Don’t have rum on hand? No problem! You can easily swap it out for other flavored liqueurs such as coconut rum, eggnog or hot buttered rum.

– Add spices or nuts: To give your cookies a little more complexity and depth of flavor, add in some cinnamon, nutmeg or ginger. You could also throw in some chopped pecans or walnuts for added texture.

No matter what substitutions or variations you choose to make to this recipe, always remember to have fun experimenting and don’t be afraid to get creative. A delicious twist on this classic recipe could become your new favorite treat!

For a non-alcoholic option, pair these cookies with a tall glass of cold milk or tea to counterbalance the sweet and warm flavors.

Now, let’s talk about the practical aspect of making these delicious coffee-rum cookies – make-ahead, storing, and reheating. These cookies are extremely versatile when it comes to storage options.

If you want to make them ahead of time for a special occasion or simply to have them ready for your cravings, you can prepare the dough in advance and store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. This way, whenever you want fresh-baked cookies without any hassle, you can quickly take out the cookie dough, shape it into balls, roll them in sugar and bake!

On the other hand, if you have already baked a batch of cookies but don’t plan on serving them right away, they can be stored at room temperature for up to five days in an airtight container. You can also store them in the freezer for up to two months if you prefer having fresh-baked cookies on hand at all times.

When you are ready to reheat your cookies, there are a couple of ways to do it. One option is to microwave them for 5-10 seconds so that they become slightly warm and gooey inside. Or, if you like crispy and crunchy cookies, place them in a preheated oven at 350°F (180°C) for 3-4 minutes.

Keep in mind that since these coffee-rum cookies have a higher sugar content than traditional cookies and contain spiced rum, they tend to get softer over time. That being said, even if they lose their crunchiness after a few days or weeks, their flavor will still be amazing.

And there you have it – everything you need to know about make-ahead, storing and reheating your coffee-rum cookies! Now go ahead and indulge yourself in one of the best drinks out there by enjoying these coffee flavored rum raisin gems fresh or reheated!

If you want to make sure your coffee-rum cookies turn out perfectly every time, follow these tips and recommendations.

First and foremost, it is essential to accurately measure all the ingredients. Baking is an exact science, and even small measurement discrepancies can have a significant impact on the outcome of your cookies. Make sure to accurately measure everything from flour and sugar to instant coffee and rum.

Also, when making the dough, it’s best not to overmix it. Overmixing can result in tough cookies that are difficult to chew. Mix just until you see no visible flour pockets.

Another tip that will add depth of flavor is using spiced rum instead of regular rum. Spiced rum has notes of cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg that complement the coffee flavor in these cookies.

If you are not a fan of instant coffee or prefer a stronger coffee flavor in your cookies, try using finely ground coffee instead. The coffee grounds will give your baked goods a rich, bold flavor that’s hard to resist.

For those interested in making this recipe without margarine or shortening, butter can be an excellent substitute. Choose unsalted butter so that you can adjust the salt content in the recipe accordingly.

Lastly, if you want to have a crispier edge on your cookies, use less brown sugar. Conversely, if you prefer softer and chewy cookies with a caramel undertone, increase the amount of brown sugar in the recipe.

By following these tips and recommendations for making perfect coffee-rum cookies with ease!, you’ll have irresistible treats perfect for any occasion!
